PATCH is a stirring examination of the intersecting and warped lives of strangers, each haunted by an unforgettable trauma. Maelynn returns to her hometown shortly after her mother's death. With each passing day, she contemplates the loss of her mother and their turbulent relationship. A recurring dream stirs up the repressed childhood memory of a hit and run accident witnessed 30 years earlier after playing with her childhood friend, Thomas. A roadside memorial marks the location of the accident where Thomas was killed. While working part-time at Belinda's Flower Shop, she meets Mr. Carter Moynahan, the tortured old man who hit Thomas in his pickup truck 30 years earlier, but does not yet recognize him. Belinda, a family friend, feels obligated to help Maelynn, but can only attempt to help her through the strain of her mother's passing as she is unaware of this darker past. Late that night, Maelynn drives her mother's car down the back roads of her youth and comes upon Mr. Moynahan crouched down at the side of the road as he replaces the flowers on the boy's memorial. In an instant, she uncovers his ugly secret. The next morning, Maelynn drives to Mr. Moynahan's country house in an attempt to confront him, but he refuses to answer the door. In contrast to the nearby town, his home presents a portrait of isolation. As she leaves, Mr. Moynahan watches her. He remains stuck in time, and somehow Maelynn's seemingly insignificant action has changed her. Maelynn drives away, making one last stop at the memorial. Dwarfed by
the surroundings as an adult just as she was as a young girl, she bids
her childhood friend farewell in the cool morning air, then drives on.
